Resources for the Warcraft Newbie

In a recent podcast I discussed a few tips and resources for beginning players, you can find that podcast here: http://thegamecase.com/podcast/episode5/

First and foremost as a new player you’ll need a site to find information about quests, how to complete them and where to find items, NPCs (non playable characters), mounts, and all sorts of other information from how to use specific talents to how to how to optimize gear and enchants.

Informational Sites:

WoWHeadhttp://www.wowhead.com/

Pros: This is an incredible site with a wealth of information. Items, NPCs, Quests, Dungeon Guides and basically anything you’d like to know about World of Warcraft can be found here.
Cons: Ads that play on the site will sometimes play audio without prompting, and it seems to crash Adobe Flash if left on.

WoWDbhttp://www.wowdb.com/

Pros: Another site with a wealth of information, cleaner UI than WoW Head.
Cons: Information not as in depth as WoW Head at times.

WoW Wikihttp://www.wowwiki.com/

Pros: Wiki Style site that allows user editing.
Cons: Wiki Style site that allows user editing, unwanted audio adds.

Gear Sites:

Ask Mr.Robot: http://askmrrobot.com

Pros: Incredible information from Best in Bag calulations, to finding proper enchants and gems. Tips on which bosses to spent your bonus rolls on and more recently combat logging and comparisons.

Cons: Really comes into it’s own at level 100, may not be necessary for the leveling process.

WoW Roleplay Gearhttp://wowroleplaygear.com/

Pros: Great repository of transmog and tier gear

Cons: Hasn’t be updated recently, i.e. doesn’t include tier 17 gear

Mog my Gearhttp://mogmygear.com/

Pros: Great Gallery of Transmog gear seperated by class

Cons: Again not entirely current

Warcrafttransmog.comhttp://warcrafttransmog.com/

Pros: Clean, bright site with good images
Cons: Has not been updated recently

Forums:

Battle.nethttp://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/

Pros: It’s the official Blizzard Forums, you occasionally even get response from Blizzard employees.

Cons: The Trolls are strong and abundant here, you may have to sift through a lot of “garbage” to find what you’re looking for.

MMO Champion: http://www.mmo-champion.com/

Pros: Very knowledgable folks, great repository of knowledge

Cons: As with Battle.net the Trolls here and strong and for every valuable opion you will find many poseurs
